Our original proposals were to bring forward a mixed-use development consisting of a nine-storey block that addresses the street and a 29-storey tower set back from the street. The nine-storey block was subdivided into a two-storey commercial base, housing affordable workspace, to be more comfortable at a human scale and a seven-storey residential element above. Overall, the development provided 4,371sqm of self-storage operated by Karbon Self Storage and 651sqm of affordable workspace or “fab labs” together with up to 193 residential apartments, 40% of which will be affordable housing. These proposals were presented both at a public exhibition held on-site on 13th and 15th October 2022 and here on our website.
Since that time, we have been working through the feedback received both through previous engagement and with Council officers and have concluded that a mixed-use scheme containing residential apartments is no longer financially viable and we are now presenting revised proposals that contain an uplift in the self-storage to 6,525sqm and affordable workspace to 1,472sqm but replaces the residential component with 615 student rooms in a building of nine to 31-storeys.
